A customer experience that mattered...A few weeks ago we had the euthanize our 13 year old Labrador, "Doc".It's the kind of difficult day many pet owners unfortunately face.A few days after, we contacted the company who provided subscription pet food delivery to let them know to cancel our subscription.Several days after that conversation, we received a bouquet of flowers at our doorstep with the note attached in this post.Aside from the gratitude and recognition for the life of a loved family member, it reminded me of several things regarding the experiences we create in the businesses we lead:1. We often fail to create meaningful experiences for new and existing customers, much less lost customers.2. We do not always need expensive, academic research to determine what matters to our customers. Many times, it is simply taking the time to empathize with what we know our customers are dealing with AND then doing something meaningful about it.3. It is sometimes hard to quantify the return on creating strong customer experiences. In this particular case, I know this to be undeniably true: as a result of this thoughtful gesture, thousands of potential customers will now become aware of this who otherwise would not have had our supplier not taken the time to create a common sense touch point experience grounded in the shared emotional experience of tens of millions of pet owners world wide. And, is there any doubt as to what pet food supplier we will use should we decide to bring another pet into our family?#customerexperience#customerservice#empathy #chewy
