I'm looking for suggestions for a new ball. I'm a mid- to high-handicapper and am open to suggestions. I would prefer something with a little spin on it, but nothing crazy.

You could do the Bridgestone VFit and get a really good read on what Bridgestone ball would work best for you. You missed the free sleeve promo by a couple of days.

I thought about that one but haven't hit it. I do like the Z-Star.

Snell sells a dozen that's 1/2 mtb black and 1/2 mtb-x.
From there you could figure out which one works better for you.

Q Star Tour is a very good ball. At least, it has been for me.

I'll second the vote on the Q-Star. I've been gaming them for years and still find them better than anything else I've tried.

I've been using the Top flite D2 plus feel golf ball, don't let the Top flite name put you off, it's actually a really nice playing ball, and can be had for about $7 a 15 pack online from Dick's sporting goods when on sale, which is often.

The Q-Star Tour is excellent, as so many have said. I also like the Project (a). In fact, I might like it a little bit more than the QST, but at $5 more per doz., I usually stick with the QST.

It has been said, the Q-Star Tour for the $$'s is probably the best overall value. Plenty of spin and stopping power, great distance off the driver and great feel off the putter. Bonus it comes in white and yellow!!!!!

You ought to try the Bridgestone online fitting. It will basically figure it out for you. You sound like a B-RXS.
If you like a little spin and performance the ProV1 is IMO the ultimate ball, but there are other really good balls out there as well. Bridgestone has a lot of options and Srixon has some nice and affordable options. For spin you definitely want a urethane cover.

As others have mentioned, the Q Star Tour may be a good option. Also the Bridgestone E12 balls.

I did that and found the x to spin more than the black. I think they are both good balls for the money, but find I prefer the black.
I also played the Z star and think it plays similar to the snell black. I am a mid handicap and would gladly play either the Zstar or snell black.

If you're a mid to high handicapper because you're losing a lot of strokes (and golf balls) off the tee or into the water, I'd go with something like the Kirkland (Costco) 3 piece ball where you can get a good ball that spins well at a great price (24 golf balls for $25) and it doesn't matter if you lose them. If you are a mid to high handicap because it takes you a lot of shots to reach the green, then any ball you like will do including Snell, Wilson, Srixon or Bridgestone.

If you want something for a mid to high cap that has some spin to it, Srixon Q-Star Tour, Titleist AVX, Bridgestone Tour B RX S, etc is probably your best bet. If you like something with a firmer feel, you probably will want to look at a more traditional tour ball (Pro V1, Z-Star, Chromesoft, etc).

By mid to high cap what cap are we talking ?
I finished the season at 8.5 and still not convinced the ball matters all that much.
I’ve watched guys shoot under par using a Wilson Ultra ball from Walmart.
I Had a string of shooting in the high 70’s this season which is good for me. I did it with balls ranging from 2 pc Callaway Supersofts to ProV1x’s.
My lowest round ever was a +3 74 with a Srixon Soft Feel.
I think what’s more the key is picking a ball and sticking with it.
I only switched to urethane balls 2 years ago because I felt like the reaction of the ball on chips was more predictable.
As many mentioned the Srixon QStar Tour is a great value right now. 3pc lower compression urethane ball for $19.99.

Personally I think any ball designated as "soft," fits most mid to high handicap golfers.
In addition to the balls referenced above, Callaway Supersoft or Titleist Tru-feel also come to mind right now, and both are relatively inexpensive.

I'm a fan of the MTB Black, and when I had the chance to test the Bridgestone E Soft, I was quite happy with it.

I really like the Cut Grey. Gamed them for a while, then saw a deal for Top Flight Gamers. $35 for 5 dozen. Couldn’t pass that up. I like the Cut slightly better. But that could be psychological. Not based on performance differences.
Both are three piece urethane balls.

I second this.
Great ball, and you can find them on sites for less than a buck a ball at times

I tried the Q-star Tour at the end of the season with great results.
Much better spin around the greens than the WS Duo ball I was playing, and I didn't notice any more spin off the tee.
Win-win to me.

Lots of good balls available. As mentioned the Q Star, Bridgestone e12, Chrome Soft. The Titleist Tru Feel is a decent ball at the price. I also like the Kirkland 3 piece and they are about $1 a ball.

"Best Ball for Mid- to High-Handicapper?" No such thing. It's like asking, what's the best ball for women? or golfers in Iowa? Let's face it Double-Drop, your swing is not the same as any other mid-to-high handicap player. Ball fitting is real. So, is considering other aspects of you and your game. Can you tolerate losing a dozen balls at $45 a box? Is a ball all about performance? Status symbol? Can't wait to hit pop and stop chips around the green?
